US electric car giant Tesla received approval from German authorities to finish construction of the German gigafactory, but it still has to face a number of problems. Officials in the eastern state of Brandenburg, where the factory is located, will monitor Tesla’s water use, step by step.
In the lawsuit, which was heard last Friday, it was revealed that Tesla was the laughing party. The request to stop, initiated by environmentalists and people living in the area of the factory in Germany, was turned down in a controlled manner.
Tesla receives controlled approval for the Germany gigafactory
The Grueneheide gigafactory southeast of Berlin is scheduled to produce 500,000 vehicles per year. Announced with great controversy in November 2019, the project was lauded by politicians in Germany, who are proud of their line of cars.
Since Tesla will produce an electric car, Tesla took advantage of the expedited pre-approval process and was allowed to begin construction before obtaining official planning permission. However, this rapid course of the American manufacturer was stopped by activists due to the environmental effects of the factory.
Gigafactory’s intense water demand has been a question mark for those living in this drought-affected region. But as a result of Friday’s lawsuit, Tesla was allowed to build the factory. However, there are still some critical conditions for the plant to start vehicle production.
Tesla spokesperson said in a statement that production at the factory should start “almost immediately”. Tesla Germany gigafactory officials remain silent about when they will start the production line.
Tesla’s next challenge will be to find workers at the factory, while the factory currently employs 2,500 to 3,000 people, according to union sources. Although not yet confirmed by Tesla, according to local media reports, this figure is planned to be increased to 12,000.
