Taiwanese mobile device manufacturer HTC sold its smartphone division to Google for $1.1 billion in 2017. Since then, it has tried to return to the old days with mid and high-end devices such as Desire 20 Pro and U12 Plus, but it could not make a sound.

It turned out that HTC, which continues its activities in certain markets with low-end smartphones, has not given up hope in the mobile sector. According to the news of the German site WinFuture, the company’s General Manager for the Asia-Pacific Region, Charles Huang, announced that they will announce a high-end smartphone in April.

HTC comes with a Metaverse-focused phone

Metaverse, the rising star of the last period, was already in HTC’s focus. In fact, company CEO Cher Wang introduced the open-source Viverse platform, which they developed as part of the goal of a ‘safe virtual world’ where both children and adults can spend time, at Mobile World Congress 2022 for the first time.

According to the statement of HTC General Manager for Asia-Pacific Region Charles Huang, the smartphone, which is expected to be introduced in April, will work integrated with Viverse. In other words, HTC seems to focus on Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) technologies in its new flagship.

Unfortunately, there is no concrete information about the screen, processor, camera and other technical features of the new HTC smartphone, whose model name is not yet known. But in order to be competitive, it is expected to have the most powerful chipset on the Qualcomm or MediaTek side. Everything that is curious will become clear in April.
