After Russia’s attacks on Ukraine, there are successive statements of sanctions against both Russia and Russian oligarchs. So much so that lastly, US President Biden said, “Like our European partners, we will find and seize your yachts, luxury apartments and private jets.”

French Minister of Economy, Le Maire, in his statement on March 1, 2022, shared the information that the number of Russian oligarchs on the EU sanction list is 488, and said that they are also examining the accounts of spouses, children and real estate companies.

The EU is now investigating whether cryptocurrencies were used to circumvent these sanctions.

A senior EU official said the EU is aware that crypto assets are “a possible circumvention” to avoid sanctions.
