Intel has quietly acquired a German software company to breathe new life into Linux kernel projects.
Mark Skarpness, vice president and general manager of systems software engineering in Intel’s software and advanced technology group, announced in a blog post that the company has acquired Linutronix, a German firm that provides services for Linux-powered industrial systems.
While neither Intel nor Linutronix disclosed the financial implications of their agreement, Skarpness also confirmed their agreement to continue supporting Intel’s PREEMPT_RT project, saying it believes it is “a critical piece of technology that will be used in many places.” .
