According to the emerging hardware leaks, the processors that will have the internal graphics unit in the Ryzen 7000 series, which is under development by AMD, will bring many innovations thanks to RDNA2 technology.
But these new AMD APU chips, codenamed Raphael, will allegedly offer about a third of Steam Deck performance. It is also claimed that we can see G series Ryzen processor models using iGPU cores in all chips from R3 to R5 and R7. Because in the past period, since those who buy high-end processors generally buy external graphics cards, AMD only offered it at the entry and mid-level.
In addition, a Twitter user named Komachi Ensaka said that the R3 or R5 series AMD Raphael APUs in total He suggested that it will have 4 cores and 2 of them will be iGPU cores (WPG). Besides Komachi’s claims, there will also be an integrated System Management Unit (SMU) driver inside the Ryzen 7000 chip. Also, this GPU will run at 1.1 GHz. However, it is said that the boost frequencies may be slightly higher.
Actually, these emerging data were disappointing for many people. Because Valve’s newly released Steam Deck handheld console also uses an APU manufactured by AMD and is powered by RDNA2 technology. But compared to the Ryzen 7000 series, which has a clock speed of 1.1 GHz and processing performance of 0.5 teraflops, its GPUs offer a clock speed of up to 1.6 GHz and processing performance of up to 1.6 teraflops. So we see a 3-fold difference between them.
Of course, although this seems like a big difference on paper, the reality may not be. However, people who think that they won’t need a graphics card anymore, thanks to the APUs to be released this year, may need to reconsider their decision. Finally, AMD will switch to a new platform and socket structure with the Raphael series. So these new chips will work in the LGA1718 socket, also known as AM5.
