Most social media platforms, including Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, developed a voice chat room feature to rival the Clubhouse application. This time, an unexpected move came from the Clubhouse, which became popular with the increase in internet consumption due to people staying at home during the pandemic period.
The US-based platform, which can be used with the invitation system, has announced the text chat feature. As the name suggests, it is now possible to send text messages in rooms in the application. The exact same feature is available in video conferencing software such as Google Meet and Zoom. But there are some differences in Clubhouse.
Clubhouse is out without a voice-based social network
The new feature, launched with the title “In-room chat”, will be directly integrated into the rooms in the Clubhouse. Participants will be able to express their thoughts via text messages when they do not want to participate in the conversation by voice.
Room moderators will have sanction authority in written messages as always. According to the statement, a moderator or the owner of the room will be able to delete the written messages, just like on YouTube. In addition, the text chat feature can be disabled. This setting can be changed when creating the room.
Clubhouse said users can delete chat messages they wrote in the room. He also stated that messages that violate the platform’s rules can also be reported directly within the chat. Emphasizing that the text chat will also appear in the replay of the room, the social media application announced that the feature is available on iOS and Android.
To use in-room chats, first install the latest version of Clubhouse from the App Store or Google Play Store. Then you can send a message by clicking the “Chat” button next to the Share and Clip icons in the lower left corner of the screen.
App requirement also lifted
Clubhouse, which has required a mobile app since its debut in 2020, eliminated this requirement in January. Previously, it was necessary to install Clubhouse on the phone to be able to join a room on the social network. After the new version released last month, it is now possible to join rooms with a browser. However, the room cannot be created in the web environment.
