Former US President Donald Trump’s social media platform, Truth Social, which became active just two days ago, had to deal with problems during the short time that passed. The new social network is struggling with technical glitches and in the process of gaining new users in the early stages of its rollout.
The platform, which advertises itself as a kind of free speech alternative to Twitter with its not very strict content moderation policies, has already banned several users. Other users are struggling to access the platform, which currently has nearly half a million people on the waiting list.
User Matt Ortega was rejected by Truth Social for username @DevineNunesCow, Mashable reports. A parody Twitter account of the same name was making fun of former Representative Devin Nunes, who is now the CEO of Truth Social’s parent company.
Several users feel that Truth Social’s moderation policy is significantly stricter than Twitter’s, despite its claims to be a haven from censorship by big tech firms.
New and potential users also encounter technical glitches while trying to sign up for the iOS-only app. Just hours after its Sunday evening debut, the platform faced a 13-hour outage due to a flood of new users.
The app currently has an average of 4.1 star ratings on the Apple App Store, although several 5-star reviewers have noted that they haven’t signed up for the app yet. One reviewer who rated the app with five stars wrote that they have yet to receive an unexpired email confirmation from True Social: “Every time I try to create an account, I don’t get an email to confirm my email address. No, it’s not in junk mail either. “I got the mail hours later and it was already expired. I keep trying and I’ll keep trying. 5 stars because I think someone is playing a game and the review doesn’t matter because I haven’t even created an account yet. I’m just trying to fix a problem.”
