India has issued some guidelines on crypto and digital asset advertisements. The guidelines will take effect from 1 April 2022.
India’s agency responsible for advertising, Advertising Stands Council (ASCI) was preparing a directive on digital asset advertising. The agency has now released these guidelines and announced that they will be effective from April 1. ASCI also stated that it had extensive discussions with different stakeholders while preparing the guidelines.
Guidelines require that digital asset products, exchanges, and all advertisements for them carry a disclaimer. It also blocks the use of words such as “currency”, “securities”, “custodian” and “shareholders” in advertisements. According to the agency, these words make these unregulated products appear to be regulated. In addition, there is the statement that information about profitability and costs should be stated clearly and accurately.
