According to market analysts, the relevant chips will be manufactured using TSMC’s 6nm process and annual demand is likely to exceed 150,000. The production quality and efficiency of TSMC, which is not even affected by the pandemic, may have lured Apple for its 5G chips.

Supply chain sources say TSMC has won all of Apple’s order for 5G chips to be used in the upcoming iPhone 14. According to the latest production notes quoted by the Economic Daily News, TSMC has “cornered” Samsung to supply the 5G chip for Apple’s new smartphone.
There were rumors previously that TSMC wanted to produce iPhone 14 5G modems. A new report from sources reveals that TSMC will not only make some of the 5G chips for Apple, but will also produce all of them.
TSMC did not confirm the details of the order, but sources in the supply industry stated that the 5G chips will be manufactured using TSMC’s 6nm process. But before this rumor, it was claimed that Apple would prefer TSMC’s 4nm process.
Sources stated that TSMC is working on a number of components, not just the chip, but the radio frequency and millimeter wave parts that connect to the modem, as well as the power management chip to the modem only.
It is stated that TSMC’s 6nm 5G chips will have significantly reduced power consumption compared to the Qualcomm chips Apple is currently using. This means there will be noticeable battery savings between the next iPhone and the current iPhone 13 series.
