With the launch of the Samsung Galaxy S22 series and possibly one of the best phones of the year, we made a quick entrance to 2022. Now the Nubia Red Magic 7 series has been introduced and we may be facing the best gaming phones we’ve seen so far. The reason for this claim is the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset, which is not found in any of the gaming phones currently available.
The series consists of Red Magic 7 and Red Magic 7 Pro. The Pro model looks particularly impressive with its 16MP under-screen selfie camera.
Although these cameras don’t attract much attention as they usually don’t perform as well as regular front cameras, the phone is the first gaming phone to offer it.
Red Magic 7 Pro also has a 6.8 inch 1080 x 2400 AMOLED display with 120Hz refresh rate and 960Hz touch sampling rate. Its RAM can go up to 16 GB and it has up to 1 TB of storage, as well as a powerful cooling system and a 5,000 mAh battery with a 135 W charge.
Red Magic 7 Pro also features a triple-lens rear camera with 64MP main sensor, 8MP ultra-wide and 2MP macro cameras, under-display fingerprint scanner and additional keys.
Nubia Standard Red Magic 7 has many similar features, but there are some important differences. The refresh rate increases to 165Hz, but the touch sampling rate is at a lower level with 720Hz. In addition, there is an 8 MP selfie camera on the upper frame, not under the screen, and there is 512 GB of storage. The other big difference is its 4,500mAh battery with 120W charging.
As might be expected, both models are equipped with RGB lighting in a metal framed case with a glass back cover.
While the phones have only been announced for China so far, global versions are expected to be introduced on February 22 and go on sale on March 10.
While global pricing is currently unknown, in China the Nubia Red Magic 7 starts at CNY 4,000 (about $630) and the Red Magic 7 Pro starts at CNY 4,700 (about $740).
