Facebook announced that it will now focus on virtual reality and Metaverse strategies, and they do not want to be known as a social media-dominated company. In this context, the technology giant, which changed its name to Meta, opened its social VR platform Horizon Worlds to users over the age of 18 living in Canada and the USA in December.

Oculus Quest requires virtual reality glasses and everyone has a special avatar on the Horizon Worlds platform. Users can teleport anywhere in the virtual world using the controller buttons on the glasses. The number of users of Horizon Worlds, which Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg describes as “the core of our Metaverse vision”, has been announced.

Horizon Worlds reaches 300,000 users

Meta’s Chief Product Officer Chris Cox briefed the company’s employees on the progress of Horizon Worlds. He said that since the day the virtual reality platform was put into use, the number of monthly users has increased by 10 times and reached 300 thousand. In addition to Chris Cox’s statement, a Meta spokesperson also shared important information.

Spokesperson Joe Osborne confirmed that Horizon Worlds and Horizon Venues, which use the same infrastructure and technology, have a total of 300 thousand users. However, this number does not include users of Horizon Workrooms, the virtual reality-based conferencing software powered by Meta’s invitation system. The number of monthly users of Workrooms was not disclosed.

An important information about Horizon Worlds was also shared recently. Meta announced that 10,000 separate worlds have been created on the platform to date. It also announced that its private Facebook group for creators has more than 20,000 members.

Metaverse is on the agenda with harassment scandals

Metaverse ( After the increase in harassment incidents in Horizon Worlds (virtual universe) based, Meta tweaked the platform. Implemented the Personal Limit feature that will allow avatars to protect themselves by avoiding unwanted contacts.

Personal Limit will be 1.2 meters between each avatar. This feature will be activated for every user by default and the distance limit cannot be changed. We are making the company new feature “Personal Limit” available by default. Because we think this will help determine the norms of behavior. Also, this is pretty important for a relatively new medium like VR.”
