Steam has released the design files of the “outer shell” around its new game console, Steam Deck, on GitLab. The company makes them available under a Creative Commons license, thus giving Steam Deck owners the ability to 3D print the device’s peripheral design and thus customize the game console. Of course, this will benefit not only game lovers, but also accessory developers.
Valve’s decision here is actually quite interesting. Because after the PlayStation 5 was released, Sony stated that it holds all the rights for the PS5’s cover design and does not want these covers to be made by accessory manufacturers.
