Valve is preparing to launch its new mobile game console, Steam Deck, very soon. While Steam Deck, which is expected to be released on February 25, will be a direct competitor to Nintendo Switch, Steam has also made a good attempt for those who want to customize the game console.

Steam has released the design files of the “outer shell” around its new game console, Steam Deck, on GitLab. The company makes them available under a Creative Commons license, thus giving Steam Deck owners the ability to 3D print the device’s peripheral design and thus customize the game console. Of course, this will benefit not only game lovers, but also accessory developers.

Valve’s decision here is actually quite interesting. Because after the PlayStation 5 was released, Sony stated that it holds all the rights for the PS5’s cover design and does not want these covers to be made by accessory manufacturers. Instead of seeing it as a commercial product, Valve’s full use of it is the opposite move, and it is obvious that it will conquer the hearts of gamers once again.
