Realme has announced two new phones, Realme 9 Pro and Pro Plus, which sit at the top of its hugely popular mid-range series. Introduced last year, the 8 Pro was among the most affordable phones available just about anywhere, except for the US, where Realme isn’t available.
The two new 9 Pro phones are big upgrades over the 8 Pro. An entirely new design welcomes us, combining thin straight edges with a curved back panel that uses a photochromic layer that changes color when exposed to sunlight – at least on the “sunrise blue” model. When you take the phone outside on a very sunny day, it can change from a blue to a reddish hue in a matter of seconds.
The highlight of the 9 Pro Plus is its 50-megapixel primary camera with optical image stabilization and using the Sony IMX766 sensor found in some flagship phones like the OnePlus 9 Pro and Oppo Find X3 Pro last year. The performance of this large 1/1.56″ sensor with 2.0µm pixels will be affected by Realme’s software, but overall good performance can be expected. The main cameras are supported by a 119-degree ultra-wide and macro lens. The main camera of the non-Plus 9 Pro is OIS.
The spec differences between the 9 Pro and 9 Pro Plus are actually quite extraordinary since we can’t say the Plus is better in every way. The Plus has a 90Hz OLED display, MediaTek Dimensity 920 processor and a 4,500mAh battery with 60W fast charging support, while the 9 Pro has a 120Hz LCD display, Snapdragon 695 processor and a 5,000mAh battery with 33W fast charging support. The OLED screen seems to be the feature that makes it stand out as a higher-end device.
Realme has yet to reveal pricing information for the 9 Pro and 9 Pro Plus and, at least initially, Expected to be released in India and Europe…
