As it is known, Tesla started using the Boombox feature in 2019 to comply with pedestrian warning standards. In this context, external speakers have been added to compatible models. While this feature allows sound to be broadcast through external speakers located outside the vehicle, it has deviated greatly from its intended use recently.
The main purpose of the boombox feature is to play music while the vehicle is parked and to create entertaining environments for both the driver and pedestrians. However, this feature has recently deviated from its intended use and started to be used while the vehicle is in motion. In fact, complaints about the feature being used to scare pedestrians have increased.
This began violating the laws of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration by largely blocking the safety artificial noise that electric vehicles make while driving, which pedestrians need to hear. In fact, NHTSA recently announced that the use of Boombox while cruising will disable the Pedestrian Warning System (PWS).
Acting without delay, Tesla decided to recall a total of 578 thousand 607 vehicles with Boombox feature. The company, which signed the sixth recall decision from November 2021, will remove the feature from 2017-2022 Model 3, 2020-2022 Model S and Model Y vehicles.
