Apple’s MagSafe accessories have received mixed reviews so far. But if Apple makes one of its new patents come true, it could take these accessories to the next level. As reported by Patently Apple, Apple has filed a patent application for some versatile magnetic adapters that will allow you to attach your iPhone to tripods and other stabilizers.

Although the patent does not directly include the MagSafe name, we can assume that the L-shaped accessory may be based on the ring-shaped magnet technology introduced with the iPhone 12, which sits under the back case of the latest two-generation iPhones and supports wireless charging.

The concept in the patent is based on being able to charge your iPhone while using the adapter. As suggested in the application, this feature can be especially useful for vloggers and videographers.

Interestingly, the patent also says that the adapter can be used to “transmit data to and from the phone,” which is not possible with the current MagSafe. So the patent either refers to the next generation MagSafe technology, or it refers to a completely different type of magnetic coupling.

Either way, it’s a promising development for those who haven’t been too impressed with the MagSafe options for iPhones so far.
