The European Union is preparing to formally evaluate the legislation on the digital euro in 2023.
EU’s Financial Stability, Financial Services and Capital Markets Association Member Mairead McGuinness said, “Our goal is to put the legislation on the table at the beginning of 2023”.
EU officials have previously emphasized that a possible launch is far. Research on the digital euro is being conducted by the European Central Bank (ECB), along with elements of the European Union’s governing apparatus.
In October, the ECB created a 30-member advisory group focused on the digital euro, leveraging the banking sector. Authorities state that coordination with the private sector should be established for the launch of the digital euro.
