Samsung gives 4 years of security updates and three major Android updates to most of its phones, especially the Galaxy A series. It was recently revealed that the Galaxy S22, S21, Tab S8 and Z Fold3/Flip3 series will be exempt from this policy and will receive 4 years of Android and 5 years of security updates.

The technology giant has made a change in the update calendar that Galaxy A51 users will not like. Introduced in 2020 and one of Samsung’s most popular smartphones with 6.8 million sales in the same year alone, the A51 will receive fewer updates from now on.

Galaxy A51 will receive two updates per year

According to Samsung’s website with the update schedule, the Galaxy A51 will only receive two security updates per year (every 6 months) from now on. The smartphone, which was released two years ago, is among the devices that Samsung will give three major Android updates. But it has only received one update (Android 11) so far.

Despite this, Samsung’s decision to sparse security updates for the Galaxy A51 has been criticized with comments that it is “not enough for a two-year-old phone”. To compare; Introduced in 2019, the Galaxy A50 still receives security updates every month. This double standard between the two models has created confusion for users.

The Galaxy A51, which came out of the box with Android 10, received the Android 11 update. As per the 3 major Android update policy, the device also needs to be upgraded to Android 12 and Android 13. The name of the A51 was already on the list of smartphones that will receive the updated Android 12. Other models on the list are as follows:
