The new 2022 Alfa Romeo Tonale has finally been unveiled, three years after the concept version debuted. To be remembered, the debut of the compact SUV was delayed due to the need for extra development time.
What does the new Alfa Romeo Tonale offer with its features?
2022 Alfa Romeo Tonale, which is a first for the Italian brand with its PHEV, or rechargeable hybrid system, will go on sale next April. The European plug-in hybrid version of the compact SUV will feature a 1.3-liter turbo four-cylinder petrol unit, an electric motor positioned on the rear axle, a 6-speed automatic transmission and a 15.5 kWh battery.
This version, called the Plug-in Hybrid Q4, will be all-wheel drive, as the name suggests, and will produce a total of 275 horsepower. This version, which weighs 1900 kg, will be the fastest member of the family with a 0-100 km / h acceleration time of 6.2 seconds. Offering a pure electric driving range of 60 km in mixed use and up to 80 km in urban use, the battery can be fully charged in 2.5 hours with a 7.4 kW wall box.
2022 Alfa Romeo Tonale can be preferred with options with 48V mild hybrid support as well as a rechargeable hybrid version. These versions, which come with a front-wheel drive 1.5-liter turbo four-cylinder petrol unit, will offer 130 or 160 horsepower depending on the package chosen.
In these mild hybrid versions combined with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, an electric motor producing 20 horsepower and 55 Nm torque will support the gasoline unit. In many low-speed scenarios such as stop-and-go traffic or parking maneuvers, modes that allow only the electric motor to be used will also be among the features.
Infrastructure and technologies
The compact SUV is built on a heavily modified version of the Fiat-Chrysler platform. The same platform is also used in some Jeep models, but the track width is greater on the Alpha. While shock absorbers called Frequency Selective Dampers (FSD) are standard in the SUV, which uses MacPherson suspension, adaptive shock absorbers are on the option list.
Different driving modes will make journeys more enjoyable with the new Alfa Romeo Tonale. While the Advanced Efficiency mode will stand out for the PHEV version, the Natural mode will balance between the gasoline unit and the electric motor. Dynamic, on the other hand, will provide a more sporty ride, as the name suggests. On the other hand, regenerative braking system with ‘brake by wire’ technology and Brembo signed four-piston front calipers will also be among the features.
Looking at the interior, we see that the Tonale has a customizable 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 10.25-inch touchscreen multimedia display. The system in question has wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support, as well as Amazon Alexa. The compact SUV, which will also have integrated blockchain technology, will offer level 2 autonomous driving with adaptive cruise control, blind spot and rear cross traffic monitoring, autonomous braking and 360-degree camera support.
With features such as dual-zone air conditioning, heated and ventilated seats, Harman Kardon sound system, wireless smartphone charging unit, 2022 Alfa Romeo Tonale’s electric tailgate will provide access to 500 liters of space. In addition to the Super and Ti hardware levels, option packages called Sprint and Veloce will also be offered.
