A lawsuit started between Capcom and artist Judy A. Juracek. Juracek claimed that the Japanese developer used his images in games like Resident Evil 4. The litigation process had been going on for some time. As of today, this situation has been resolved.

Law firm St Onge Stevart Johnston and Reeds LLC released a statement yesterday. In the statement, it was stated that the dispute regarding the alleged use of Capcom and Juracek’s photos in Capcom’s games was resolved amicably. At the moment, no other details have been made publicly available about the decision between Capcom and Juracek.

Capcom and Juracek fixed the problem

Juracek first filed this lawsuit against Capcom in June 2021. The artist claimed at the time that Capcom had used at least 80 photos from the book ‘Surfaces’ more than 200 times without a license. Resident Evil 4’s broken glass logo was also included in the list of images that Juracek claimed were illegally used by the company.

The only steal about Resident Evil is not limited to this

Capcom’s only criticism for copying it in 2021 was not limited to this. After Resident Evil Village’s release in May, Dutch director Richard Raaphorst accused the developer of stealing monster designs.

According to Raaphorst, the Sturm boss in Heisenberg’s factory was an exact replica of the monster he created for the 2013 horror movie Frankenstein’s Army. Raaphorst stated in a speech that he was angry at the situation at first. Then he added that he was proud. Finally, he said the following:

“Finding a great design is very difficult. It’s really hard to think about something that communicates as a cool design. Ideas aren’t the only things you can go around and catch. It’s hard work to think about. And then they grab it.”
