Twitter continues to test many features on the platform. The social media platform, which has been testing the negative vote button for a while and recently announced that it will bring this button to more users, announced that this time it is testing sending a DM to a user from a tweet.
Sending a Direct Message via Tweet
With the new test feature, Twitter allows users to start a direct chat with the owner of the tweet with a single tap, with a new DM (Direct Message) and reply icon that will appear in a shared tweet. Starting a DM conversation without leaving the stream will become as easy as replying to a tweet.
The new feature the company is testing: “When you want to reply directly to the author of a tweet, we’re making it easy to DM them from your timeline to start a conversation.” announced in his words.
Tested with certain iOS users, some people criticized this feature on the grounds that making it so easy to send DMs would make negative messages to be sent to users more possible. A Twitter spokesperson on this issue said that the controls on the DM will always be with the user and they can turn this feature off if they want.
