Users who downloaded the latest Canary version of Google Chrome noticed that the browser’s icon had changed. The change marks the first time in eight years that Google has redesigned the icon representing the web browser. Google designer Elvin Hu detailed the thought process leading up to the redesign in a Twitter thread.
A closer look at the icon reveals that the shadows have been removed and a flatter design has been introduced. In addition, the proportions have been changed and the colors have been made brighter.
These differences depend on what platform you use Chrome on. For example, on macOS, the icon looks more like three-dimensional. According to Hu’s information, the new icon will start appearing effectively on all platforms in a few months.
