A controversial decision has been made for Minecraft: Java Edition. Minecraft, which was sold to technology giant Microsoft in 2014, has been playable through the Mojang account since then. Developer Mojang Studios announced in 2020 that the account separation between the two versions would be lifted. Mojang Studios has announced that starting March 10, Minecraft: Java Edition will only work with a Microsoft account. Stating that millions of users moved their Mojang account to Microsoft voluntarily in 2021, the company stated that the time given to the players has come to an end and the Microsoft account will now be mandatory.
The company also explained the reason for the change in the related blog post. “You will not be able to play Minecraft: Java Edition unless you switch to a Microsoft account.” Mojang Studios shared the knowledge that they do this to ensure everyone enjoys a safe gaming experience.
According to the statement, the Mojang account can be migrated to Microsoft in minutes, and the company will not charge users any additional fees during the transition process. Mojang – Microsoft integration can be started easily via the ‘move account’ button on the Minecraft Launcher and the Minecraft website.
Users who complete the pass will be given a free cloak that they can use on their characters. Also, existing Mojang account data in Minecraft: Java Edition will not be deleted. Players’ usernames, progress, creations and skins will be transferred to Microsoft without loss as they are.
