The architect of Worms games, Team17, has now announced it’s giving up, shortly after announcing its NFT plans. The firm stated that it decided to close the MetaWorms NFT project after listening to its partners, developers and the gaming community, and said that it decided to withdraw from the NFT field.
As part of the MetaWorms project, it was necessary to produce “limited edition” computer-generated collections related to the company’s Worms brand. These were supposed to be sold by Reality Gaming Group, which claimed to have the ability to print NFTs in an environmentally friendly way. One of the biggest controversies surrounding NFTs is that they have a negative impact on the environment due to the energy required to maintain blockchain operations.
Team17 said that if it sold 100,000 Worm NFTs, the energy used to save them would equal the average annual kettle use of just 11 households. But now all these words have no meaning…
