Spotify Has Left Another Bend Behind. But The Future May Not Be So Bright!

Spotify announced that it has achieved another great success in the shadow of protests and boycott calls. According to the statement, the streaming service has surpassed another milestone by exceeding the number of 400 million users. But it seems a little doubtful that the same success will be reflected this year as well.

Spotify announced yesterday that its total monthly listener count reached 406 million at the end of last year. Thus, the 400 million user milestone was left behind.

While this was a huge success, now eyes are on calls for a boycott following the COVID-19 misinformation on Joe Rogan’s popular podcast. Many users and artists have called and continue to call for a boycott of Spotify because of these misinformation.

It is worth saying that the number of announced users exceeded the expectations of Wall Street analysts. However, Spotify predicts a slower start for 2022. This has caused a drop in share prices.

According to Refinitiv Eikon, by the end of the first quarter, Spotify will reach 418 million monthly listeners and 183 million paid subscribers. This expectation is below the target of 420 million listeners and 184 million members.

Still, the latest figures once again demonstrate Spotify’s dominance among music streaming services worldwide. Its biggest competitor, Apple Music, doesn’t routinely announce its paid membership and hasn’t offered an update for more than two years. Apple last announced the size of its subscriber base in June 2019, when it had 60 million members.
