Live service games have reached a level that gaming communities can no longer avoid. Even though many companies are putting forward various ideas on the subject, most of them are not able to implement it. But with the help of Bungie, Sony is preparing to release 10 games of this genre in the next 4 years. Here are the details…

Sony-Bungie collaboration bears first fruits

Live service games, whose name we have started to hear more often in recent years, have actually become a relatively new category of games that are constantly updated, added innovations and kept alive with various events, just like an application, since the day they were introduced.

The common feature of this type of games is that they are free. Because the main purpose of the companies is to attract users to the game in the 1st step. Then, fees are charged for many things from costumes to missions, from event entrance tickets to character traits in the game. Of course, since these payments are actually a shortcut, players can proceed the long way completely free of charge if they wish.

These 10 productions, which Sony has started to develop, will be supported by Bungie, the developer of Destiny and Halo, which it recently bought. Making a statement on the subject, Sony CFO Hiroki Totoki said:

The strategic significance of this acquisition is not just in acquiring the hugely successful Destiny franchise and a major new IP that Bungie is currently developing. We are also interested in the expertise and technology that Bungie has developed in the live gaming services space.

As for the company’s specific plans for future live service games, neither Sony nor Bungie provided any details. However, it is said that we may see some existing PlayStation franchises in this area in the future, such as Guerrilla’s Horizon series or Sony Santa Monica’s God of War.
