WhatsApp has released the ‘delete for everyone’ function in the past years, which prevents the other party from seeing the accidentally sent messages. Thanks to the feature, it was possible to permanently delete a text message or file you sent from both yourself and the recipient’s WhatsApp account at the same time.

The delete for everyone feature is only available within an hour of sending the message. When more time passes, WhatsApp does not allow the message to be deleted from the other party. In the reports that emerged in November, it was revealed that this period, which was criticized as being “too short”, would be extended to 1 week.

WhatsApp won’t increase delete for everyone to 1 week

WABetaInfo, which is famous for revealing the features that WhatsApp is developing, gave the bad news to users. Allegedly, WhatsApp has given up on increasing the duration of the delete for everyone feature to 1 week. Instead, it was shared that the message deletion period will be 2 days and 12 hours.

The ‘Delete for everyone’ feature can be used within 1 hour after the message is sent.

WABetaInfo announced that the change is still under development and will be in beta in the coming days. After the necessary tests are completed within the scope of the beta, all WhatsApp users will be able to use the delete for everyone feature even if more than 1 hour has passed.

To use the delete for everyone feature in the WhatsApp application, open the application and go to the chat with the message you want to delete. Press and hold the message and click the ‘Delete’ button and click the Delete message > Delete for everyone button. In order for the transaction to occur on both sides, both you and the other party need to use the latest version.

Things to remember

  • Recipients can see your message before it is deleted or if the deletion is not successful.
  • You will not be notified if deletion for all fails.
  • Recipients who use WhatsApp on iPhone may still have some saved media that you sent in their Photos folder, even after the message is deleted from the WhatsApp chat.

But do you find the delete for everyone feature useful? You can share your thoughts in the comments section or on the SDN Forum.
