El Salvador’s Finance Minister, Alejandro Zelaya, reacted sharply to the IMF’s call to drop the Bitcoin policy.
El Salvador’s Finance Minister, Alejandro Zelaya, spoke on a local television channel about the IMF’s call to the country on Bitcoin last week. As we reported earlier, the IMF demanded that the country stop using Bitcoin. Zelaya, the country’s finance minister, reacted sharply to this request of the IMF and said, “No international organization can make us do anything.” The Minister also addressed this demand as a move towards the independence of the country and underlined that the countries are sovereign nations.
This is not the first time that the IMF has voiced this demand. El Salvador has previously rejected the request, stating that its adoption of Bitcoin helps support financial inclusion for millions of people.
