Today, we are all exposed to a lot of radiation during the day, but when a nuclear power plant explodes, the amount of radiation exposure increases much more. The damage it causes to its environment, unfortunately, lasts for years. You may remember that in recent years, there was a large nuclear power plant explosion in Japan.
Fukushima Nuclear Power Plant experienced a massive explosion with the tsunami and earthquake in 2011. The tsunami, which caused the death of thousands of people, turned into a much bigger disaster with the explosion of the Fukushima Nuclear Power Plant. The traces of the explosion still continue despite all these years.
Trees near Fukushima keep growing in rather strange ways
Researchers who came to the region from many universities in Italy and Brazil encountered interesting things when they saw the plants near the destroyed plant. Noticing that the trees looked different than they normally would, the researchers determined that this was due to radiation emitted into the environment. The closer the trees were to the nuclear power plant, the weirder their images became. The researchers say that the growth patterns of the fir trees around Fukushima are much different than normal and show irregular branching.
Realizing that the closer the plants are to the power plant, the more strange they are in their structures, the researchers say that even though 11 years have passed since the explosion, such effects can still be seen. They say that it is quite interesting to see that the plants are still affected by the radiation in the soil.
