 Pokémon Legends: Arceus – Review
READING NOW Pokémon Legends: Arceus – Review

I have a very special bond with Pokemon games that I have been a regular for years. Six warriors with me, together, we took many ways to save the world and sometimes the galaxy, and to be the Pokemon Champion at the same time. For the first time in a long time I was this excited for a Pokemon game. Because every main game we’ve seen so far has had a championship fight. I thought Sun & Moon would get out of this, but Arceus got lucky. I played Arceus with great pleasure as if there is no tomorrow, but this is partly due to my Pokemon addiction. If you expect not to do the same things, unfortunately Arceus is not for you. However, I can assure you that a Pokemon lover is unlikely to dislike this game.

Forget all the Pokemon games ever made (if you only remember a little bit of what happened in Sinnoh), a brand new and extraordinary adventure begins with Pokemon Legends: Arceus. Yes, I said extraordinary because you will witness a lot of things that have not been in any Pokemon game before. When you think about it, it is impossible not to be angry with Game Freak for why we waited for such elements until now. It was late, it was hard, but we finally got rid of that stereotypical same type of story and met a REAL STORY. Get your pokeballs ready because we’re embarking on an amazing adventure beyond Sinnoh in Hisui!

Pokemon Master Descending from the Sky with the Zembyl

After the game was first announced and the concept emerged, I was wondering how we would go to the past. Because in the current Pokemon games, technology had advanced a lot and we could do everything with Rotom. It is quite cliché that we have come to a world without rotors, computers and completely digital technology. In the cutscene at the very beginning of the game, the character falls from somewhere, then Arceus interacts with his mobile phone and bam! There is a boy who fell from the sky on the shores of Hisui. It is naturally not possible for a child who does not have the slightest idea of his past, family and who he is to survive alone in the wild, where Pokemon are seen in the wild. At this point, the village idiot, sorry, the professor of the village, Laventon finds us.

The wishes of the professor who welcomes us with a strange beret on his head, like Deli Emin in the vision television, start right there. As a kind of training mission, he makes us catch 3 starter Pokemon and is really shocked when we catch all three. Because catching Pokemon seems like an incredibly difficult task until we arrive, and the steamy Pokeballs Laventon invented are not known to the whole world. In other words, we are in the position of a prophet coming from the sky, well, when we think that Arceus was the one who sent us, there is no wrong inference. Different clans have settled in the barren land of Hisui and are struggling to survive. It’s the Galaxy clan that screams at us.

Of course, it is not easy to bring a child that nobody knows into the village, people are afraid even of their shadows and there is great ignorance around. “We will give you a job, but if we fail, you will not be able to come here and you will die of hunger!” message is given. A truly stunning start for a Pokemon game. However, the task given is to catch Pokemon, as you can imagine, and we soon become the masters of this business. Finally, we get the clan accepted and get our first rank, and these ranks have one of the most critical functions in the game. There is neither a GYM nor a Pokemon League yet. So instead of badges, ranks determine the level of Pokemon that will obey us. For example, when we are a fourth level Survey Corp employee (the name of the department we work for), Pokemon up to level 60 listen to us. All we have to do to get these levels is forget that there is a real world out there and catch Pokemon until the morning! In fact, it’s not just catching, but beating them, not just beating them, but beating them with certain types of attacks!

Pokedex Logbook

Since Hisui does not have any digital tools, Pokedex is also manually recorded manually. However, this recording job does not end with just one capture. Each Pokemon has its own specific tasks, and without fulfilling most of them, Pokedex data is not fully formed. This is where the repetition part comes into play in such a way that if your time is limited, I recommend that you leave the game to a large period of time. Because catching 15 Bidoofs, beating 8 Bidoofs with a combat type attack, and catching 6 by stealth is a bit of a pain. Also, imagine doing quests like this for every Pokemon. . . The fact that the game makes it reasonable and logical is that it has made this Pokemon chase part a discovery system. You leave the village and go exploring, on your way back, you report to the professor, write your articles to Pokedex and present these reports to the Survey Corps headquarters in the city. Ok, there is some logic in the game, but why did you put bureaucracy in Pokemon?!

Until now, when tall bushes were mentioned, Pokemon sprang from within would come to mind. Tall shrubs are your best friend with Arceus. Because as I said, we live in a wild time and Pokemon don’t hesitate to attack you directly. If you take too much damage, you drop some of the items on you and wake up in the nearest camp. That’s why sneaking and catching Pokemon is a pretty useful tactic. And of course, the option of catching your warrior Pokemon by throwing them on the enemy and reducing their health in the classical way is always at your bedside. However, it is a quicker method to catch Pokemon quickly and write them in the notebook, and then rank up and open new places without going into all this fighting fanfare.

Some Pokemon are cowardly by nature and run away as soon as they see you, so catching them secretly is the only option. Others prefer to be caught by fighting, saying, “Come on, let’s see if you’re hand or yaman or yaman,” rather than stealth. However, after the Great Ball is opened, this fight catch is no joke because most Pokemon start to be caught stealthily. However, the game also has mini-bosses and they are called Alpha Pokemon. These alphas, whose eyes glow red, are also quite large in size and really strong, but they are all catchable and a great addition to the team. Of course you can beat it. . . So much so that as you progress, you can catch Pokemon in alpha form, such as Machamp and Electivire, which cannot be obtained except for swapping. Unfortunately I didn’t see the alpha versions of my favorites Alakazam and Gengar, if there is and I can’t find it I will be very upset.

Two Eggs One Tablespoon Potion

Perhaps one of the most enjoyable parts of the game is the crafting system. You can produce all kinds of items that will be of use to you during the explorations. Of course, to do this, you need to get certain recipes. For example, like Assassin’s Creed, do you want to produce smoke bombs to escape from the Pokemon that surround you, you need to find the necessary recipe. Afterwards, you can collect materials in the open world and craft all kinds of items whether in the camp or on the portable craft table next to you. Thus, you can take care of your every need yourself without having to go back to the village. Only the attacks of Pokemon, namely PPs, create some problems, other than that, needs such as Revive, Potion, Pokeball can be easily produced, the necessary materials are abundantly available on the map.

Instead of this craft craze, old-fashioned grocery shopping remains the same, but money is much more valuable than other games this time. Because there is no one around to beat their animals and take their money! Your main source of income is the Survey Corps business, which is really your official job, contribute to Pokedex, receive and spend money according to your contribution. Also in the game there are much more valuable places to spend the money than the grocery store. You get the attacks for the Pokemon with money, but don’t be afraid, another good innovation of the game is this attack system. Now you can arrange the attacks of Pokemon anywhere. For example, are you bored of your Snorlax’s Rest/Sleep Talk build? You can immediately come to the menu and select and save the four attacks you want, so Pokemon have become much more efficient and it is possible to choose advantageous attacks according to the regions on the map.

The Good Times Before HM Slavery

Hisui, where the game takes place, is a place like the old times of Sinnoh. Everyone talks about the name Sinnoh like a god anyway. I don’t know if we went back in time or if this is a parallel universe, but I’m glad that that disgusting concept called HM wasn’t invented. We couldn’t find a place for the attacks we wanted when we said HM separately for rock climbing, separately for swimming, separately for climbing the waterfall and lighting the cave. In the good old times, you can summon the necessary Pokemon with Pokeflut and go on the water if you want, you can climb the rocks or even fly if you want! Of course, all these features are unlocked over time in the scenario, but eventually, when all of them come, we have a huge Pokemon world to explore and a wide variety of ways we can do this.

Our adventure, which started with Survey Corps, is seized by intra-Hisui politics, and as the chosen one of the country, we find ourselves in the conflict between three plus one clans. I am sure you all are familiar with the Pearl clan, which thinks that everything is from space, and the Diamond clan, which thinks that everything is from time. We are also in the Galaxy, which stands neutral in the middle of these two. The fourth clan has nothing to do with meat and milk, they are only in the trade part of the business and add a nice depth to the game. I never expected such a deep story in a Pokemon game. The Pearl clan is a somewhat shamanic community that says that Pokemon should stay free and not use the evil invention called the Pokeball. Diamond, on the other hand, is more pragmatic and ready to do whatever it takes to survive. A huge portal from which we fell from the sky disturbs all the Pokemon in Hisui, and the Pokemon that these clans regard as sacred also suffer from this inconvenience.

A total of five holy Pokemon, also known as Lord Pokemon, have gone insane. Saying that the way to the heart of the Pokemon is through its stomach, we create a series of packages of the favorite dishes of these Lords’ guardians, and we begin the real boss fights of Pokemon history. With the dodge system added to the game, we have to fix these Lords’ madness, as they’re sacred, they’re straight to “Here you go Snorlax will now sit on you!” we can’t say. While the Pokemon are attacking you personally, we need to run away and throw food on their heads. Again, as in the open world, if we take too much damage, everything goes black and we go back to the beginning of the fight. If you manage to throw food on his head quickly for a while, the lords’ defense falls and you can attack and stun with the Pokemon in your hand, then you have to throw more food and complete the fight. There are five such boss fights in total, and I can say that we are so longing for even the slightest difference in the name of Pokemon that this simple mechanic amused me a lot.

What Color Are Pikachu’s Eyes?

One of the weirdest parts of Legends: Arceus is the quests. So I’m not talking about the main story of the game. Under the name “Requests”, there are certain things that the characters in the village and the open world want from you. People are curious about everything because there is a great ignorance about Pokemon around, and it’s your other duty as Survey Corps to answer. Some NPCs come to you and say, “Pikachu is a beautiful Pokemon, but what color are his eyes?” he gives the task. You catch Pikachu and show it to them. Or “I’m a psycho and I should know all about Machoke!” a madman says Machoke’s completed Pokedex entry from you. Most of these quests don’t take much time for what you’re already doing and the rewards are good. Moreover, making people aware of Pokemon is also invaluable. I hope the same people don’t try to eat ice cream Pokemon. . .

I Got Hungry When I Said Time, Space

When you calm down all these lords in the game again, things take a really unexpected turn. It’s the first time we’re really seeing a story change and characterization in a Pokemon game. As I write this, I am so happy that, predictably, as we approach the end of the game, Time and Space Pokemon Palkia and Dialga are coming to the lead. Normally, if you played Diamond or Pearl in Sinnoh games, you could catch one of these two. Since this is a single game, clans come into play. While the clan leader you are close to starts to accompany you at the end of the game, the other one is busy with other things. But don’t worry, you have the opportunity to catch both Dialga and Palkia at the end of the day. This clan selection just changes the priority. After putting Hisui to rest, a peace between the clans takes place, and the child falling from the sky brings world peace to the unthinkable thing!

The part that made me laugh the most was eating from the restaurant in the center of the village after each discovery. We also learn some clues about the story in these meals we ate with Professor Laventon and his assistant. In addition, we put in our pocket a recipe for a tool that will be useful for every meal. Since there is no computer and Bill in the game, there is a FARM for the surplus Pokemon you catch. Yes, it’s a big farm we know. Freeing the Pokemon here allows you to obtain items that are very useful for you. There is a type of training called EV training in Pokemon games, and you can train Pokemon according to their specific characteristics. In this game, you get the necessary materials for this training in the easiest way by releasing too many Pokemon. After that, it’s up to you which Pokemon you strengthen. Let me remind you that when Snorlax gets his defenses and health full, he will gain time to throw the Pokeball until the morning.

There is no way to find Snorlax under normal conditions in the game, but as time and space become chaos, storms break out in various parts of the map. Within these storms, different Pokemon from parallel universes (beware, they’re usually pretty powerful) teleport to Hisui for a while. I caught Umbreon and Snorlax through these storms. Also, Mr. Powerful and rare Pokémon such as Mime and Magnezone also appear in abundance. When you enter these storms, do not forget to check the places. You can find items such as Energizer, Dubious Disc and Upgrade only in these storms. In addition, for every Pokemon you catch here, you earn extra points and money in the Pokedex report, it’s a nice win-win system.

How Do You Get Your Kick? Is it strong? Agile?

The most beautiful innovation in terms of fighting in the game is that you can now walk around while the Pokemon are fighting and the animations go directly to the opponent Pokemon. For example, you can actually see a Snorlax throwing Fire Punch going and hitting that Tangrowth in the mouth. Do not get between two Pokemon or you will get your share of these attacks. Another nice innovation is the attack mastery system. You can now use each attack in two different ways. Whether you use it as agile with low damage but the option to attack twice, or by saying “I’ll put my code in place”, throw a whopping punch in the opponent’s mouth at the expense of a round pass. If you have type advantage and your attacking Pokemon is strong, these powerful attacks are perfect for one-shots. Two things are required for Pokemon to master attacks. Either you will master yourself as you level up in an attack that you learned yourself, or you will make an attack that you teach the seed and make it a master. For this, you need to go to the training ground in the village and get the “Seed of Mastery” item, then you can use any attack you want as agile or strong.

There is a serious shortage of fighting humans as the game lacks GYM, rival trainers, and the Pokemon League. You usually fight wild Pokemon and either complete the Pokedex or save your life. To fill this gap, it is possible to make strong Pokemon fights with certain NPCs in the training ground in the village and level up. This training ground will play a key role when Hisui’s first Pokemon League begins, prepare yourself now! Finally, I would like to give one more life-saving information. The limit of the bag on your waist is not enough when the craft system is activated and you cannot collect the items when your limit is full. In the headquarters of the Galaxy clan, a friend is teaching you to free up space in your bag for a fee. Each time, the fee continues to increase and you may have to give 10 thousand credits for a single place at the end. If you don’t want it to get to this point, I would say make plenty of use of the ware chests you have in your house in every camp and village.

At the end of the day, another Pokemon Master saved Sinnoh, sorry Hisui, from a great chaos. This time, however, both the path he followed and the experiences he gained were invaluable. It is possible to find the essence of Sinnoh in this game. As I said at the beginning, there is no possibility that you like Pokemon and dislike this game. Although Arceus’ name is mentioned in the game, you never hear it during the main story because everyone refers to the god as “great Sinnoh”, but that doesn’t mean we won’t go after Arceus who sent us here. There are plenty of Pokemon hunting, Pokedex completion and tracking Arceus waiting for us as post-game content. For now, it seems to be quite enough that Nintendo can spice up Hisui with additional packages, as in the Sword/Shield duo. I am very happy to play a real-story Pokemon game that is worth waiting for a long time, I hope we will see the good innovations in this game by developing in new games. Until we meet again, good luck with your Thunder and lots of evasiveness!
