Apple released the iOS 15.4 and iPadOS 15.4 beta versions for developers two days ago. The company has now opened the beta to general users, allowing non-developers to test the new version of iOS. You can also download the Public Beta profile of iOS 15 to your iPhone or iPad and install the update via wireless connection.
With the new iOS version, the long-awaited ‘Unlock with Face ID’ feature, which iPhone users have been waiting for, was introduced. In addition, Apple has finally implemented the Universal Control function, which it announced at the WWDC21 event, but postponed for months. So what’s new with iOS 15.4 and iPadOS 15.4 beta?
iOS 15.4 and iPadOS 15.4 beta innovations
1) Face ID with mask is now possible
With the iOS 15.4 version, Apple brought the ability to unlock with Face ID while wearing a mask. This innovation, which is currently in beta, has been expected for a long time. In fact, thanks to the Apple Watch, it was possible to unlock the iPhone with Face ID while wearing a mask. iOS 15.4 will remove the Apple Watch requirement.
2) Universal Control feature coming
One of the innovations that will come with iOS 15.4 is Universal Control. With this feature, iPads and Macs with the same iCloud account can be controlled with a single cursor and keyboard. For example; You’ll also be able to use your MacBook’s trackpad and keyboard directly on your iPad. Universal Control will automatically activate on devices running iOS 15.4 and macOS Monterey 12.3.
3) New emojis on the way
It has been revealed that 37 emoji will be added to the new iOS version, which is still in beta. Among the new emojis; It includes symbols such as melting face, greeting, bean, face with eyes and mouth open, face with crossed mouth. Not only will it be limited to the addition of new emoji, the existing emojis will also expand with different variations. Of course these will be compatible with the Unicode standard.
4) Turn off alerting when automation is enabled
Thanks to the Automation feature in the Shortcuts application, you can have an action done automatically on the iPhone at the time you specify. Currently, the application sends notification to inform the user after an automation runs. With iOS 15.4 in beta, you will be able to choose not to receive notifications when automation runs.
5) Adjusting the brightness of the connected keyboard
With the release of iPadOS 15.4, the ‘Keyboard Brightness’ option will be added to the Control Center, which allows you to adjust the brightness of the connected backlit keyboard. To use this feature, which is compatible with Apple’s Magic Keyboard, you will first need to add the keyboard by clicking the + sign in Settings > Control Center.
6) Note support in iCloud Keychain
iCloud Keychain users will be able to annotate their passwords in iOS 15.4 and iPadOS 15.4. There will be no restrictions at this point. Apple will allow notes to be added to any password requested.
7) 120 Hz period in third party apps
Apple added 120 Hz refresh rate support to iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max models. However, third-party applications installed on the phone could not benefit from 120 Hz ProMotion technology. Apple said it was a Core Animation bug and would fix it as soon as possible. With the new iOS version, 120 Hz feature can be used in third-party applications.
8) Custom Email Domains
Apple improved the private email functionality it offers as part of the iCloud+ subscription in iOS 15.4. With the new version, users will be able to create a Custom Email Domain directly from iCloud Mail.
9) Cosmetic Scan tool
As it is known, Apple runs an official exchange program in certain countries, especially in the USA and Germany. In this context, customers get a gift card that they can use at Apple in exchange for their old iPhones. With the Cosmetic Scan tool developed by Apple, users can detect scratches, bumps, etc. They will be able to analyze the situation against damages.
10) Fast login to websites
With iOS 15.4 and iPadOS 15.4 versions, websites that allow authentication via Face ID or Touch ID will be able to authenticate with iPhone instead of entering a password.
Other features in the new iOS version include; It includes the addition of vaccination records in Wallet and Health in the EU Compliant Digital COVID Certificate format, game controller support, new customization options in the TV app, and enabling SharePlay directly from the share page.
watchOS 8.5 and tvOS 15.4 public betas are also live
In addition to the public beta versions of iOS 15.4 and iPadOS 15.4, Apple has also released the public beta of watchOS 8.5, the operating system of the Apple Watch. In addition, the public beta of macOS Monterey 12.3 and tvOS 15.4 operating systems has been made available.
