The process of updating AirPods firmware is rather confusing as there is no manual way to download and install new firmware, or even any indication of the update’s progress. This situation, which bothers many users, is finally resolved with the macOS Monterey 12.3 beta version.
In the macOS Monterey 12.3 beta, which was released for developers on Thursday, it was revealed that it has a module that updates the AirPods firmware. As it is known, updates were previously available only on an iPhone or iPad.
AirPods software updates are now available on Mac
According to information shared on 9to5Mac, AirPods Pro have been successfully updated to the latest firmware version available using a Mac running macOS Monterey 12.3 beta. However, as with iPhone and iPad, no download and update notifications are displayed in the update made via macOS.
Apple says that AirPods firmware updates are installed when the earbuds are connected to an Apple device via Bluetooth. The fact that AirPods are connected to a power source also speeds up this process.
Unlike the iPhone and iPad, the Mac does not show the current firmware version of the AirPods. Having the ability to update Apple’s truly wireless earbuds using a Mac is seen as a significant improvement, especially for those with a Mac-only device without an iOS device.
