“Digital collectibles” is a phrase commonly used by companies in China to avoid having to say “NFT” after Chinese state media began denouncing the international market frenzy over NFTs.
According to a press release, People. The Lingjing Folk Art Museum, hosted by cn, will provide artwork services such as copyright protection, digital publishing, artwork digitization, and blockchain certification. The press release also said the gallery will “explore new modes of art trading and open new channels for the marketing of artworks,” implying that the digital collectibles gallery will launch the art trade as the next step.
The gallery’s homepage currently showcases traditional Chinese artwork by famous artists, but without price tags or buy buttons. Amid Beijing’s warnings against NFT trading, Chinese tech giants have vowed to resist digital collectibles speculation. For example, according to the rules of Alibaba’s blockchain subsidiary AntChain, an NFT buyer must wait 180 days before being able to resell an NFT to avoid scams.
