CBD effects on COVID-19 found by chance
The researchers first studied human lung cells that were not exposed to the COVID-19 virus. They treated lung cells with a specific, nontoxic dose of CBD. Later, researchers who tried CBD in three variants of the COVID virus found that it had the same effect and inhibited the virus’s ability to replicate. CBD did not prevent the virus from entering the cell, but was effective in inhibiting replication six hours after the virus infects the cell early in the infection cycle.
Underlining that only high-purity CBD can prevent the effects of the virus, the researchers also state that it has no effect on the virus when mixed with any substance. They say that it is risky to use, especially in pregnant people, and that it can also have negative side effects in people with heart and lung diseases. The effects and required dosage of CBD on the virus continue to be investigated.
Mixtures of CBD, whose prescription sale is legal in our country, with THC are considered illegal. It has also been announced that much more detailed research on the effects of CBD on COVID-19 will be conducted in the coming days.
