Mankind’s space exploration and research is accelerating as time goes on. The International Space Station (ISS) is also of great importance for this issue. In the past weeks, we shared with you that NASA has extended the mission of the International Space Station and that it will continue to host its mission and astronauts for another ten years.

Of course, this station, which is located 418 km above the Earth, where many astronauts are located, plays a leading role in interesting things besides space exploration. One of them was that Russia, which we conveyed to you in the past months, broke new ground by shooting a movie at the station. Another was that in 2016, astronaut Scott Kelly, who was on the station, wore a gorilla suit. Now, a statement has come from this astronaut about the incident.

‘There has never been a gorilla in space before’

Retired astronaut Kelly made statements about the event in 2016. The famous astronaut, who spent a year on the ISS between 2015 and 2016, stated that his twin brother Mark Kelly sent him the gorilla suit. When Scott Kelly asked Mark why he was doing this, he replied: “Because gorillas had never been seen in space before. ”

Mark Kelly first tried sending the costume to Scott Kelly in 2015. However, the costume, which was included in SpaceX’s cargo mission, was destroyed by the explosion of the rocket. Not giving up, Mark Kelly sent another costume to Scott Kelly in 2016, and he achieved his goal.

‘The video was completely fictional’

In the video, which was viewed more than 9 million times and received more than 350 thousand likes, it can be observed that Scott Kelly is wearing a costume and chasing British astronaut Tim Peak, and quite funny images emerge. Retired astronaut Kelly said, “People loved the video, of course. After all, who doesn’t love a ‘space gorilla’? Still, I’m surprised the video has become so popular after all these years.”

Finally, Kelly stated that what happened in the video was completely fictional and that he was aware of Tim Peak’s gorilla costume and that they aimed to create a funny video. The 57-year-old astronaut also added that he joked with the astronauts who were unaware of the costume, and that the cosmonauts at the station laughed when they saw the costume.
