When we use today’s incredibly powerful, thin and extremely capable phones, we forget how phones got to this level. But remember, important models that offer all the important features in today’s phones for the first time deserve to be unforgettable. In this article, we give place to phones that have signed some important firsts in the phone industry. . .
First Phone with Camera
The first phone to carry a camera was the Kyocera VP-210, released in May 1999. The phone came with a 0.11 megapixel front camera and could only store 20 photos at a time.
The First Dual Lens Camera Phone
We had to wait 12 years to see the two lenses appear on phones. LG Optimus 3D, which went on sale in July 2011, aimed to take three-dimensional photos with its dual camera. But in the meantime, it also managed to be the first phone to come with a dual lens.
First 3G Phone
There is no definite opinion about which 3G phone was the first. But phones with this title are thought to be NEC and Panasonic phones, which were probably released in Japan in 2001. The Motorola A820 pictured is known to be one of the first phones to offer 3G in 2002, at least in the UK.
First Phone with 4G
Finding the first phone with 4G support is much easier than 3G. HTC Evo, which pioneered technology in the USA, came in 2010 with a 4.3-inch 480×800 screen, 1GHz Snapdragon processor and Android 2.1 Eclair. The first 4G phone for the rest of the world was probably the HTC Max 4G. This phone was released exclusively for Russia in November 2008.
The First Phone to Offer an App Store
The first iPhone released in 2007 did not support third-party apps. The Apple App Store, on the other hand, came with the second generation iPhone, the iPhone 3G. Thus, it went down in history as the phone that offered the first application store with third-party applications.
First Phone with Fingerprint Sensor
Fingerprint sensors in phones began to become widespread with the Touch ID added to the iPhone 5S, which Apple introduced in 2013. However, there is a phone that knew four years ago that this feature would gain importance: Pantech GI100 came with a fingerprint sensor in 2004.
However, let’s also say that Apple used capacitive finger scanning for the first time on the iPhone 5S. Previous phones worked with optical scanning (i.e., taking a picture of the finger).
