READING NOW When will Sony stop production of PlayStation 4? Here are the predictions

Like every console generation, PlayStation 4 will one day come to an end. At the beginning of this week, after the Xbox One production was completely stopped, the eyes were turned to the Sony front. Like its rival, the famous Japanese company was expected to end the production of PlayStation 4. Strong rumors from the Bloomberg front were denied and it was announced that the console will continue to be produced. In this sense, it is a matter of great curiosity when Sony will take this decision.

Plans for PlayStation 4 could last at least two more years

Sony, which has released an official statement in the past days, denied the news that they will stop the production of PS4, especially responding to the claims that this will happen due to the lack of PS5 stocks.

It was said that they did not make any decision to end the production of PS4 until the end of 2021, and for the time being, PlayStation 4 production will continue at full speed. But when will this happen, while it is certain that the PS4, like all consoles, will end its production? In this sense, in order to make the best guess, we first need to take a look at the previous PlayStation generations and their lifetimes.

The production processes of PlayStations, item by item…

  • As you know, PlayStation 1 was first released in December 1994. Although the production of PlayStation 1 was stopped in March 2006, the games and console were on the market for a long time. On the other hand, we can assume that the life of the first PS was 12 years.
  • PlayStation 2 continued its production for 12 years, just like the first generation console. PS2 production, which started to be produced in March 2000, was stopped in Japan in 2012 and all over the world in 2013.
  • PlayStation 3 went on sale in November 2006, six years after the release of PlayStation 2. Console shipments ended in the US in October 2016 and in Japan the following March. In total, the PlayStation 3’s lifespan was a little over 10 years.
  • PS4 was first released in November 2013, which means the PS3 has been on the market for three and a half years over the life of the new console. PlayStation 4 Pro shipments ended in Japan in January 2021. At the time, Sony promised that it had shifted its focus to producing the PS5, but that it would use its energies for the PS4 as well. Jet Black 500 GB PlayStation 4 continues to be produced and sold. In total, the console’s life span is more than eight years.

In the light of all this information, we can say that the production of PlayStation 4 will take at least 2 or 2.5 more years. However, it is also important how the production problem Sony and all companies will continue. As a matter of fact, Sony has had serious problems with producing PS5 for a while, and it is obvious that this problem will continue if the chip shortage continues.
