Speaking to the press, Minister Faeser underlined that Telegram is generally used for political purposes. Defending that extreme right-wing groups and people making anti-vaccine propaganda against the government opened groups, the minister argued that these should be prevented somehow. According to Faeser, the continuation of this situation adds danger to the life of the application.
While it is thought that those who try to violate German laws should be punished, those who do this through social media are also on the radar of the state. Defending that order should be maintained just in case, Faeser explained that “if necessary” the Telegram platform could be closed completely. There has been no response yet from the Telegram front, which has learned that Germany will not withdraw from closure.
