Alternative messaging apps gained immense popularity in the days when WhatsApp forced all its users to approve policies regarding the processing of their data. One of these applications was the Signal application, where even Elon Musk shared ‘Use Signal’ from his Twitter account.
Signal, which experienced an incredible increase in the number of users in those days and continues to be used today, has received important news today. Moxie Marlinspike, the founder and CEO of Signal, announced that she has resigned from her CEO position for nearly 10 years. While the new CEO of Signal has not been announced, the name that will take on this task temporarily has also been announced.
“Important to increase the success of Signal”
In his blog post, Marlinspike stated that he will remain on the board to help Signal achieve its goal. Although the founder of the app did not explain why he left his CEO position, he explained that it was important to increase the success of Signal. He also explained how he founded Signal by himself and for a long time even managed the call center himself. He added that Signal today consists of a team of 30 people.
Moxie Marlinspike announced that she has been looking for a new CEO to manage the company since the past months, and now she has announced this to everyone with her blog post and is waiting for possible candidates. He stated that Brian Acton will take over as CEO temporarily until the new permanent CEO is announced. Acton was the co-founder of WhatsApp and founded the Signal Foundation with Marlinspike in August 2018. Acton, in his previous statements, argued that everyone should delete Facebook.
