Spotify, one of the world’s most popular and most subscribed music / podcast streaming platforms, has made yet another controversial decision in the new era. The streaming platform, which has been criticized for not being able to switch to the Hi-Fi music standard that is expected to be offered to users in 2022, seems to set the agenda with its new advertising strategy.

Spotify will appear with visual ads

In 2020, Spotify announced that it was working on an ad system that would surpass the display of promotional codes and custom URLs during podcast ads.

Starting today, Spotify is entering a new era in in-app ads. When an offer or an ad is mentioned during a podcast you’re listening to, a CTA card (a pop-up-like message) will appear on the screen and you’ll be greeted with a clickable message.

These new CTA cards will still appear if you are in a different window in the app while the podcast is playing in the background. If the application is running completely in the background, you will still be faced with this CTA card when you log into Spotify for the first time. The thing that can annoy users here is that Spotify Premium members will also be faced with these ads and CTA cards are not allowed to be closed in any way…

However, the information from the Spotify front is that the company does not have any concerns about this. The famous company states that many podcast producers take advertisements between shows in order to survive. Spotify is of the opinion that users will not worry about this situation, as the listened content will not be divided in any way.

So what do you think about this new advertising strategy of Spotify? Do you think it would be irritating that premium subscribers will also be faced with advertisements in some way? You can share your views with us in the comments section.
