CES 2022 is now only hours away from the start of the fair. However, technology companies started to do their digital events a few days ago by holding their hand early. Finally, AMD joined these brands. The chip manufacturer introduced the highly anticipated new Ryzen 6000 series processors, graphics cards and technologies developed for mobile platforms.

AMD, Ryzen 6000 series revealed

The new chips appear in a structure very similar to the Ryzen 5000 series as a production architecture. But with better power efficiency and greatly improved graphics performance, a new CPU family is emerging. You can see the processors that will be released on this new Ryzen 6000 mobile platform with Zen 3+ cores in the table below.

AMD introduced 11 new mobile processors in total, including 4 Ryzen 9, 3 Rysen 7 and 3 Ryzen 5. Among these chips, Ryzen 9 and 7 models come with 20 MB cache and 8 cores / 16 threads. The Ryzen 5 family welcomes us with 6 cores, 12 threads and 19 MB cache.

In addition, the Ryzen 9 series really pushes the limits, relying on 5 GHz at clock speeds. However, the most important feature of these processors, which have normal operating frequencies of 3.3 GHz and below, is revealed when looking at the power consumption data. According to AMD’s claim, laptops with up to 24 hours of battery life will enter our lives in the near future.

Although the Ryzen 9 6980HX processor will be the choice of those seeking performance, the Ryzen 9 6980HS model stands out with its TDP (power consumption) limited to 35 watts. Moreover, we often see HS series processors in relatively smaller 14-inch compact gaming computers such as the ROG Zephyrus G14.

U-series chips, on the other hand, are the kind of processors you will usually find in 13-inch ultrabooks or commercial laptops, and although they contain everything in terms of technology, they have a structure that is always positioned below the rest of the family in terms of performance.

At this point, AMD only offers 2 U-series options. One of them is the 6800U from the Ryzen 7 series, and the other is the 6600U model from the Ryzen 5 family. Of course, many people already seem to have their eyes on the Ryzen 7 6800U, which comes with 8 CPU cores and 12 GPU cores and has a TDP of only 18-28W. Because it offers 4 more GPU cores in addition to last year’s popular model.

The company says the new generation processors are 1.3 times faster than their predecessors. However, when we look at the specific products rather than the general average, we see that it is even higher. For example, the Ryzen 7 6800U, in tests on Adobe Premiere Pro, reveals that it is 1.69 times faster than its predecessor 5800U, with the 4 new GPU cores it brings. In addition, in the tests made in Cinebench R23, a difference of 11 percent in a single core and up to 28 percent in a multi-core emerges.

Ryzen 6000 chips are all manufactured with TSMC’s new 6nm technology, which provides the best performance per watt. In addition, AMD offers many features such as Zen 3+, additional deep sleep states and advanced power management to get better battery life. In this way, although these results will not be achieved in all processors and laptops, the company promises battery life of up to 24 hours.

RDNA 2 graphics technology

In the past, no one wanted to use integrated graphics cards on their computers, mobile or not, unless it was mandatory. But with the developing technology, the GPUs that come in our processors can now give the performance of powerful graphics cards that were only a generation or two ago. Of course, the new technologies that it brings with it have an advantage.

With RDNA 2, AMD offers the same architecture used in Radeon 6000, Xbox Series X and Playstation 5 to its users. Of course it won’t be as strong as them. But they are said to be the most powerful mobile platform built-in GPUs ever developed. In other words, it is claimed that it is even ahead of Apple’s new M1 Pro and M1 Max. So the expectation is very high.
