Ongoing archaeological research around the world continues to uncover new information about dinosaurs that were wiped out by the Cretaceous-Tertiary mass extinction 66 million years ago. Last week, we conveyed a new discovery on this subject to you. In this study, researchers announced that they had discovered a fossil preserved in its egg for 66 million years in Ganzhou, China.

Now a new discovery has been made for dinosaurs in the south of Wales. Scientists have revealed that the dinosaur footprints discovered in the city of Penarth of the country date back more than 200 million years.

“The footprints belong to the Triassic period that ended 205 million years ago”

The study published in Geological Magazine; It was conducted by an international research team of paleontologists from Cardiff University, the National Museum of Wales, the Natural History Museum of London, Liverpool John Moores University and the University of Lyon. As part of the research, experts analyzed dinosaur footprints discovered in 2020 in Penarth’s Glamorgan Valley.

As a result of the examinations, it was revealed that the footprints belonged to the ancestors of a lizard-hipped dinosaur species, ‘Diplodocus’, and may belong to the Triassic geological time period, which ended 205 million years ago. In addition, the scientists stated that the analyzes were made using the latest technology 3D imaging technology.

Noting that the footprints will not be touched until they are eroded by the sea, scientists hope that further investigations will be conducted during this time and new information about the Triassic period, about which little is known, can be brought to light.
