US-based e-commerce giant Amazon’s voice assistant Alexa came up with a rather strange discussion. The assistant gave mind-blowing advice to a little girl who is only 10 years old. The incident, which emerged with the statements of the little girl’s mother on Twitter, also mobilized Amazon.
The woman named Kristin Livdahl said that they actively use the Amazon Echo and previously asked for various challenge advice to spend time with her daughter. On the day of the event, the family, who asked for help from Amazon Echo once again after her daughter wanted to try a new challenge, encountered an unexpected response. Alexa, the artificial intelligence of Amazon Echo, recommended the 10-year-old girl the “coin challenge”, which once became a trend on TikTok.
“My daughter is too smart to do such a thing”
The coin challenge involved inserting only one end of some electronic devices into an outlet and touching the other end with electrically conductive parts such as money. This unnecessary current was at that time; caused electric shocks, injuries, fires and malfunctions of some electronic devices, and provoked the reaction of conscious people. Kristin Livdahl, in her statements on the subject, said that when this trend was recommended, she shouted to Amazon Echo, “No, Alexa, no! My daughter is too smart to do such a thing . . . ”
Amazon officials, who made a statement after the issue was brought to the agenda, announced that they have updated the Echo and will not make such recommendations again. “Customer trust is at the heart of everything we do, and Alexa is designed to provide customers with accurate, relevant and helpful information,” the company said in a statement.
