The world’s most used messaging platform, WhatsApp, is working hard to make its platform more useful. In line with its goals, the company has been working on the Community feature for a while. Although limited, information about admins will have more authority in group chats has been obtained before. According to some, there has been a new development regarding this feature, which will resemble Discord.
Communities begin testing in Beta
WhatsApp aims to increase the authority of administrators in group conversations with its Communities feature. Thus, administrators will be able to create smaller subgroups within the group chat. The first test drive has now been prepared for the untested feature. WhatsApp will begin testing the Community feature with a new update brought through the TestFlight beta Program. The update is currently available for iOS 2. 22. 1.1.
The community and normal WhatsApp group conversations will be different in design. However, it will have a name and a description, just like in group chats. Group admins will be able to create new subgroups in the chat as well as add existing groups. There can be a maximum of 10 groups in a chat. Communities will reportedly be protected with end-to-end encryption.
If it is different from group chats in design, it will be a community icon. While normal group icons are round, Communities will appear as squares with curved corners. Participation in WhatsApp Communities is provided with the invitation feature. Users will be able to join manually or with the “Community Invite Link” sent by the administrator. However, the release date of this update is not known yet.
