Making money from illegal streaming services is not a very ethical move. But now in Malaysia, it’s also extremely dangerous. In a statement from TorrentFreak, it was reported that there are changes to the country’s Copyright Law that penalize those who pirate streams. Those deemed to have harmed streaming services and copyright holders could face fines of $2,377 or more and up to 20 years in prison.

The updated law also aims to deter companies from participating in the pirate stream or tolerating its existence. They will be considered complicit and guilty unless the administrators show they were unaware of a violation and “take all due diligence” to stop such acts.
