We shared with you in our previous news that Apple has become the number one customer of TSMC (Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company), the world’s largest independent foundry. But at that time, no one could understand how the company got ahead of other smartphone and chip manufacturers and put its name in the first place on the list. However, the reports that emerged revealed the facts.
Apple has built a golden bridge with TSMC!
We know that TSMC is speeding up production for the new 3nm processors of iPhones. In this way, Apple will continue to lead the industry in the mobile chip platform. But the most surprising event has occurred in recent months with the rapprochement between the two companies.
Apple was having trouble in the production line of the company’s iPhone 13 models at the time of the chip crisis. Of course, many brands in the industry were in a similar situation. For this reason, the number of requests reaching TSMC was at its peak. However, Apple somehow managed to get its name to the top of the list and overcame this problem.
The agreement that TSMC previously made with Sony to establish a joint factory and production line by shaking hands was shared. However, the company managed to prioritize Apple even in this case. The reason was understood with a report that appeared recently. The data shows that Apple accounts for more than 25 percent of TSMC’s revenue.
Last year, the chip maker generated $45.51 billion in revenue. The report also states that Apple accounts for 25.9 percent of TSMC’s business. In this case, it means that Apple’s share in this earnings is $ 11.4 billion. MediaTek is in the second place of the list with a rate of 5.8 percent.
AMD is in the third place with 4.4 percent. It is followed by Qualcomm with 3.9 percent. In the rest of the list, Broadcom (3.8 percent), Nvidia (2.8 percent), Sony (2.5 percent), Marvell (1.4 percent), STM (1.4 percent), ADI (1.06%) and Intel (0.84 percent).
Of course, since Intel has its own foundry, we can understand why it is at the bottom of the list. But since the company lags behind TSMC when it comes to cutting-edge production, it has to give the rival manufacturer a share of its earnings.
It was known that Apple made all 5 Nm processors to TSMC, including the A15, M1, M1 Pro and M1 Max. But the most surprising thing was that the company made such a large payment. For this reason, we have understood why it is cherished.
