It is expected to arrive in 2028 at the earliest
Analyst Mark Gurman from Bloomberg claims that Apple integrates the modem into the processor and aims to gain advantages in cost and power consumption. However, it is stated that this plan will not be implemented immediately. Apple’s C2 and C3 modems, which are currently in the test phase, are developed as a separate chip, such as C1. Gurman says the integrated modem design will come in 2028 at the earliest.
Apple, the iPhone 16e model announced the C1 modem, “the most efficient modem so far” as the launched. However, this modem does not yet have MMWave 5G support and supports only 6 GHz 5G frequencies. Therefore, in terms of performance, Qualcomm is expected to be behind the modems.
In 2019, Apple accelerated modem development activities by acquiring Intel’s modem unit. After 6 years, the company, which has the fruit of its work with C1 modem, plans to switch to its chips on all iPhone models with more talented modems in the future.
