In the current pandemic period, messaging platforms have come to the fore as often as social media applications. In fact, various platforms such as Telegram and Signal managed to increase their popularity due to WhatsApp’s new user agreement for a while.
Telegram was already a relatively well-known and used application. But Signal has managed to advertise quite well. Nowadays, the company is on the agenda with the new features it brings to the platform. Today, group calls with end-to-end encryption are introduced with the innovation.
Signal brings group calls of 40 people
Signal today released a detailed description of its open source software, Signal Calling Service, to encrypt large group calls. The company uses a feature it calls “selective forwarding” for this process. They have also developed a version that can handle a higher volume than existing open source SFUs.
As we approach the second year of the pandemic, you may know how much we have to trust that claims of “end-to-end encryption” by other companies like Zoom and WhapsApp actually mean that communication will be private.
Bosses can control your video conferencing activity in the company account, which ranges from recording and listening to your Zoom meetings, to downloading transcripts and even checking out private DMs you send in the app.
Zoom itself may be stepping in, as the US Department of Justice’s claims by a China-based security executive that it monitors and intercepts calls referring to Tiananmen Square. As everyone knows, the application has recorded a ton of security vulnerabilities recently.
Generally, the government can accept subpoenas for private content such as video services and stored recordings. But they can’t because Signal doesn’t have them. In this way, you can go through a series of steps to feel more secure, or you can choose to enter only data-free applications from the beginning.
