Social media users have been arguing for some time over an unusual video that shows multiple glowing lights floating over the South China Sea.

The 53-second video was captured by a pilot on the morning of November 24 at an altitude of about 11,887 meters above the South China Sea, according to UFO tracking website UFO Stalker. The film first shows nine lights moving in three rows across the sky at sunrise. The closest object then disappears before three more objects appear outside the formation.

One person is heard in the video saying, “I don’t know what this is. It’s kind of weird.” After the lights go out one by one, he expresses his surprise with one word: “Gone!”

No official statement has been made about this image yet, but the recording was enough to spark discussions on social media. Some speculate that it could be some sort of military exercise or just a reflection in the cockpit window, while others suggest it could be an unidentified extraterrestrial flying object (UFO).

“At first I thought it was a reflection of the cockpit window, but no,” one person tweeted. “It’s not consistent with that. Now I’m thinking, could this be a military countermeasure exercise?”

Another says, “Given that there are billions of Galaxies containing millions of stars and planets, it makes sense that there are other beings out there that are less intelligent than humans (which doesn’t take much) and much more intelligent than we are.”

One of the most popular explanations behind UFOs seems to be that they are experimental military technology. The South China Sea is of great geopolitical importance, especially since most of the world’s maritime transport passes through it. Considering that the region has been in various territorial disputes lately, it would not be surprising to see a military presence in the region. However, even US officials are now starting to take UFO reports seriously. In recent years, a number of high-profile images have garnered significant media attention and have even been sanctioned by the Pentagon.

Earlier this year, another bizarre sight was recorded by multiple witnesses above the Chinese city of Shanghai. A Youtuber set out to investigate this eerie sight and concluded that the “UFO” is actually the shadow of a building reflected in the city’s clouds.
