Dell came up with its new laptop called Concept Luna. Focusing on sustainability with Concept Luna, the US manufacturer aims to significantly facilitate its ‘reuse’ by designing all parts of the device in an easily removable structure. Developed in partnership with Intel, the machine is an important start for the future of laptop computers in this sense.

Concept Luna features parts that make it easy to repair and recycle as part of Dell’s environmental ambitions. Compared to the laptop computers released today, the machine can be disassembled more practically, and all its parts, especially the motherboard and keyboard, can be attached to other compatible devices.

One of the most striking aspects of the device; the motherboard, which is only 5,580 square millimeters in size, is located behind the screen. This design, which we are not used to seeing in closed laptop models such as the Concept Luna, also contributes to the fact that the motherboard is 75 percent smaller and contains 20 percent fewer components.

Dell stated that the Concept Luna has reduced the number of screws by a factor of 10 to facilitate repairability. The company said that only four screws are enough to access the internal components of the laptop, thus significantly reducing the repair time. The process of disassembling, repairing and reassembling the Concept Luna’s key components is shortened by 1.5 hours.

Dell has provided better passive heat dissipation by separating the main components of the laptop from the back of the main battery. The company said it thus eliminated the need for a cooling fan. In addition, Concept Luna has an aluminum body. This aluminum material was processed using hydro power, which requires less energy and significantly reduces scrap metal.

Among the other features of Concept Luna; It features a wrist rest that is easy to repair and reuse, and a keyboard mechanism that can be easily detached for reuse and recycling. Additionally, the base has a bio-based PCB made of flax fiber and a water-soluble polymer as an adhesive.
