Formula 1 hosted more competition this year than we have seen for years and missed here and there. Lewis Hamilton and 24-year-old young pilot Max Verstappen, who managed to become world champions 7 times as a result of the contentious and tense competition that lasted all season, entered the last race with equal points.
The last race of the season was a race that crowned the adventure we saw all season. Although Hamilton managed to continue the majority of the race ahead of Verstappen, the safety car came out in an accident with 5 laps before the end of the race. In this process, the decision taken by the FIA, which it later changed, almost determined the champion of the season.

During the safety car, the cars that lost the lap between Hamilton and Verstappen were told not to pass the safety car at first. But before entering the final lap, FIA Formula 1 Racing Director Michael Masi, with a sudden change of decision, told the laps to pass the safety cars. Thus, Hamilton with worn tires and Verstappen with brand new tires restarted the race one after another. In the race that started again on the last lap, Verstappen easily passed Hamilton with his tire advantage and became the champion.
Mercedes objected, but was turned down:
This is the decision of the FIA, the Mercedes-AMG F1 team suggested that the race should be given to Hamilton and went to protest. But the FIA did not reverse its decision and turned down Mercedes’ protest. As a result, although Verstappen has won the world championship, a statement was made by Mercedes-AMG that this work is not over yet.
Mercedes is going to appeal the decision:
Just as many Formula 1 fans would expect, Mercedes-AMG has announced that it has announced its intention to appeal the FIA’s final decision. After this stage, Mercedes has 96 hours to decide whether to formally appeal the decision. If Mercedes appeals the decision, that means the championship will be decided in the FIA’s International Court of Appeal.
